SUPPLICATION FOR PEACE IN ISRAEL AND PALESTINE
O Master, Lord Jesus Christ our God, the Fount of mercy and love, Who in Thy surpassing goodness becamest man, that by Thy holy Suffering and glorious Resurrection Thou mightest bring peace and unity to things heavenly and things earthly: Do Thou Thyself, O Compassionate One Who lovest mankind, incline Thine ear at this hour and look upon us with gracious eyes. Hearken, O Lord, unto us, Thine unworthy servants, who pray for the peace of the whole world and for the cessation of the terrible war in the lands of Israel and Palestine; check the arrogance of the mighty; deliver our brethren and the whole world from every adverse threat; send forth Thy Grace in the form of a dove bearing an olive branch, the symbol of reconciliation; liberate those in captivity; console those in hardships; protect the refugees; by Thine illumination, teach those in authority and leaders of nations to resolve in peace differences that arise and to be in accord in everything, so that we, too, living a quiet and peaceful life in all piety and sobriety, may have Thy help as a weapon of peace and an invincible trophy. Cast us not away from Thy countenance, O All-Good Master, and take not Thy holy and pacifying Spirit from us, neither utterly abandon our brethren in Israel and Palestine, nor us and Thine entire world, to the rage and destruction of war; implant in both them and us power from on High; wall both them and us about by Thine all-powerful right hand; and bestow undisturbed peace upon us, Thy sinful children. Before all and above all, uphold us in Thy fear and Thy love, for, with contrite and humbled heart, we know and confess that, living unworthily of our Christian calling, we have become estranged from Thee, and that our sins, having multiplied more than the sand of the sea, have drawn down Thy righteous wrath upon us; yet, O Master, we know Thine inexhaustible goodness. Wherefore, hearken unto us, who are useless, reprehensible, and self-condemned, but who make bold still to hope in Thine insuperable love for mankind, and fulfill our petitions that are unto peace and salvation. By the intercessions of our Most Blessed Sovereign Lady, the Theotokos; of Saint Sophronios of Jerusalem; of Sts Theodosios and Sabbas; of our Holy Fathers Porphyrios, Dorotheos and Cosmas of Gaza; and of all Thy Saints. For Thou art the King of peace and the Savior of our souls, and unto Thee do we ascribe glory, together with Thine unoriginate Father, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
